The Tusken family (more accurately called Tusken clans or tribes) refers to the social structure of the Tusken Raiders (also known as Sand People or Tuskens) from the Star Wars universe. They are a nomadic, indigenous species native to the harsh desert planet Tatooine.
Key Facts About Tusken Social Structure

Clans vs. Tribes: A typical Tusken clan is a small immediate family group of about 20–30 individuals. Multiple clans form larger tribes, which can vary widely in size. Tribes are led by a chieftain and emphasize survival, discipline, and contribution from every member.

Family Roles:
Males traditionally serve as warriors and hunters.
Females handle non-combat tasks essential to tribal life.

Star Wars Archives Episodes I, II, III - The Tusken Family (Episode II - Attack of the Clones).

In Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999), C-3PO (often called "Threepio" or "See-Threepio") is revealed to have been built by a young Anakin Skywalker on the desert planet of Tatooine.

Key Details from the Movie

Anakin, a 9-year-old slave boy living in Mos Espa and working for the junk dealer Watto, secretly assembled C-3PO from scrap parts he collected (mostly from Watto's junkyard).

Anakin built the protocol droid to help his mother, Shmi Skywalker, with household tasks around their modest slave quarters.

In the film, C-3PO appears unfinished and "naked" — without his signature gold outer plating. His internal wiring, gears, and mechanical parts are fully visible, giving him a skeletal, exposed look.

Anakin introduces the droid to visitors (including Padmé Amidala and the astromech droid R2-D2) with the line something like: "I'm building a droid... 3PO!" He proudly shows off his creation, and R2-D2 humorously notes that C-3PO's "parts are showing."

C-3PO helps Anakin with his podracer (as part of the pit crew) during the Boonta Eve Classic race.

When Anakin leaves Tatooine at the end of the film (freed by Qui-Gon Jinn to begin Jedi training), he leaves the still-unfinished C-3PO behind with his mother.

Why Did Anakin Build a Protocol Droid?
Anakin was a mechanical prodigy with a strong affinity for the Force. He dreamed of freedom and exploring the galaxy someday. By programming C-3PO with knowledge of over six million forms of communication, he envisioned the droid as a helpful companion who could one day allow him and his mother to travel and communicate anywhere in the galaxy. It was both a practical project (to assist Shmi) and an expression of his hopes for a better life.

Star Wars Archives Episodes I, II, III - Creating C3P0 (Episode I - The Phantom Menace).

The pig-like creature from Naboo seen in Attack of the Clones is the shaak, a non-sentient, herbivorous species native to Naboo's grasslands.

Designed by Terryl Whitlatch for The Phantom Menace, shaaks are bulbous, four-legged mammals with brown leathery skin and weak legs relative to their plump bodies. They appear briefly in both The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones, and were intended to resemble grazers bred for food, akin to sheep in Naboo society.

Though gentle and slow-moving, shaaks can buck wildly if improperly ridden. They are unable to swim and are vulnerable to the Blue Shadow Virus, which turns them purple and kills them instantly

Star Wars Archives Episodes I, II, III - Creating The Shaak (Episode II - Attack of the Clones).

Dexter "Dex" Jettster is the beloved four-armed Besalisk diner owner from Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones. He runs Dex's Diner on Coruscant and helps Obi-Wan Kenobi identify the Kamino saberdart, revealing the clone army's origins. He's a former prospector, smuggler, gun-runner, and fighter with a gruff but warm personality, a big appetite for life, and a classic 1950s-style diner vibe in a futuristic galaxy.

Dexter Jettster was entirely computer-generated (CGI) in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones. He is one of the fully digital characters created by Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) during the prequels' heavy shift toward digital filmmaking.

Design Process

Concept artists at ILM and Lucasfilm created nearly 50 different designs for Dex, including many head maquettes (small physical sculptures).
George Lucas reviewed them and selected elements from two favorite maquettes, instructing the team to combine them into the final Besalisk look (the four-armed, bulky alien cook).
A detailed physical maquette of the chosen head design was sculpted. This served as the primary reference for the digital model.

Star Wars Archives Episodes I, II, III - Creating Dex (Episode II - Attack of the Clones).

Sebulba was a male Dug from the planet Malastare, born in the city of Pixelito. Originally a slave under the Grand Colonists who ruled Malastare, he earned his freedom through victories in podracing, a dangerous high-speed sport popular in the Outer Rim.

A skilled but ruthless pilot, Sebulba became the reigning champion of the Boonta Eve Classic on Tatooine, piloting a massive orange Plug-F Mammoth podracer with a split-X configuration. Known for his aggressive tactics, he frequently sabotaged rivals and equipped his vehicle with illegal weapons such as flamethrowers to ensure victory.

He was the primary rival of a young Anakin Skywalker, whom he initially mocked and attempted to sabotage. However, during the Boonta Eve Classic in 32 BBY, Anakin defeated him in a dramatic race that secured the boy's freedom from slavery. The loss deeply embarrassed Sebulba, though he remained a prominent figure in the podracing world.

Star Wars Archives Episodes I, II, III - Creating Sebulba (Episode I - The Phantom Menace).

The Naboo N-1 starfighter (often just called the Naboo starfighter) is one of the most elegant and distinctive ships in the Star Wars universe. It first appeared in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999) and perfectly captures Naboo's design philosophy: a beautiful marriage of art and advanced technology.

Key Features and Design

Aesthetics: Sleek, curved yellow body with polished chrome accents on the nose and engines. It has sweeping, aerodynamic wings and long, fin-like extensions on the twin engines that give it a graceful, almost organic look.

Engines: Twin radial J-type engines (with gleaming chrome cowlings) that provide excellent speed and agility. It also features a Nubian Monarc C-4 hyperdrive for independent hyperspace jumps.

Armament: Twin forward-mounted laser cannons and two fire-linked proton torpedo launchers.

Cockpit & Systems: Single-pilot cockpit with a transparent canopy. An astromech droid (like R2-D2) sits in a dorsal socket behind the pilot (it compresses slightly to fit the ship's curves). It includes deflector shields and an autopilot.

Role: Primarily used by the Royal Naboo Security Forces for patrol, escort, and defense. It's nimble in dogfights and was key in the Battle of Naboo against the Trade Federation's droid control ship.

Star Wars Archives Episodes I, II, III - Creating the Naboo N-1 Starfighter (Episode I).

The Radiant VII is the Republic Consular-class space cruiser that opens Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999). It's the ship that carries Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and his Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi to Naboo as ambassadors to negotiate with the Trade Federation during the blockade crisis.

The vessel docks with the massive Trade Federation battleship Saak'ak. Captain Maoi Madakor (the pilot) and her copilot are on board, hailing the Federation with the classic line about Jedi ambassadors. But Darth Sidious orders the ship destroyed to eliminate the Jedi threat immediately.

Turbolasers obliterate the Radiant VII in one of the franchise's most memorable opening destruction scenes—Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan barely escape into the hangar bay just in time.

This short but iconic appearance sets the entire prequel trilogy in motion, showing the Republic's diplomatic approach clashing with the Sith's shadowy aggression right from the start.

Star Wars Archives Episodes I, II, III - Creating the Radiant VII Ship (Episode I).

Lucrehulk-class battleship (also called the Trade Federation battleship or Droid Control Ship) from Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999). These massive ring-shaped vessels blockaded Naboo and served as the backbone of the Trade Federation's fleet.

Design Origins and Concept
The Lucrehulk-class was originally a civilian Lucrehulk-class LH-3210 cargo freighter built by Hoersch-Kessel Drive Inc. The Trade Federation modified their existing freighters into warships rather than building new military vessels from scratch—this was a cost-effective choice for a profit-driven corporation. The distinctive ring design (with a central spherical core) came from practical retrofitting: the outer ring provided huge cargo holds (later adapted for hangars, droid storage, and weapons), while the core housed command centers and control systems.

Concept development for The Phantom Menace was led by Doug Chiang (design director) and the ILM art department, under George Lucas's direction. Lucas wanted a retro, saucer-like aesthetic to evoke classic UFO/flying saucer vibes, but with a clear front/rear orientation.

Early concepts leaned toward a more traditional solid saucer shape.
Doug Chiang added antennae/docking ports on one side and engines on the other to define directionality.
Lucas personally suggested the central "bridge ball" (the spherical core) to finalize the look, giving it asymmetry and character.

This resulted in the unique ring-with-core design seen in the film.

Star Wars Archives Episodes I, II, III - Creating the Trade Federation battleship (Episode I).

The creation of Jar Jar Binks for Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999) was a groundbreaking milestone in filmmaking, marking one of the first fully photorealistic, computer-generated main characters in a live-action movie.

Conception and Casting
George Lucas envisioned Jar Jar as a key comedic and narrative element in the prequel trilogy. The character drew physical inspiration from silent film comedian Buster Keaton (for his slapstick physicality and expressive movements). Lucas wanted a fully digital character to push visual effects boundaries.

The role went to actor, comedian, and performer Ahmed Best. Best was performing in the stage show Stomp in New York when he auditioned. He did a screen test with Lucas at Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), and shortly after was offered the part. Best provided:

The voice (that distinctive Gungan accent and speech patterns)
On-set physical performance
Early motion capture data

He flew to London for principal photography and later worked with ILM teams.

On-Set Performance
Ahmed Best wore a special suit during filming — often a rubbery, textured bodysuit with markers for motion tracking, plus stilts or platforms to match Jar Jar's tall, lanky proportions (around 7 feet). The suit helped actors and crew visualize eyelines, scale, and interactions.

Best performed every scene in real time on set, doing all the physical comedy, gestures, and dialogue. This included interacting with real actors like Ewan McGregor, Liam Neeson, and Natalie Portman. The suit was hot, cumbersome, and required intense physical commitment — Best essentially acted as a live puppet/reference for the digital version.
