Ki-Adi Mundi was one of the most experienced and battle hardened Jedi Masters on the front lines of the Clone Wars. Being a veteran of the Stark Hyperspace war that took place a very short time before the Clone Wars, he was ready for anything… That was until call to execute Order 66 was delivered to every clone Trooper in the Galaxy, with the goal of wiping out every Jedi. In this moment Ki-Adi Mundi managed to sense what was coming in advance… So why couldn’t he do anything about it? let’s break down the heartbreaking and sad reasons why Ki Adi Mundi still died…
So after Order 66, there was a written account of what was going through the minds of the Clone Troopers who participated in Order 66. At the time the Order was given, The Clones of The Galactic Marines recalled being deeply worried that even though they were stationed far from any other Jedi, Mundi still posed a grave threat.
What was unique about the Squad following Ki-Adi Mundi on that fateful day was that when Baccara and the others received the Jedi Kill Order from Palpatine, they decided not to act immediately. Baccara himself deemed it far too dangerous for his men to immediately fire on Mundi in such a dangerous position. Baccara believed Mundi was far too powerful and he didn’t want to put the lives of his men in danger for no good reason… But as the inhibitor chips demanded, they had to take him out…
So what they decided was that they should stick close together until Ki-Adi Mundi was distracted by something else on the battlefield, and that exact moment they would take their shot. As their advance pushed forward on the very frontlines of the icy Mygeeto battlefield, Baccara knew his time to strike had arrived once they reached the final bridge to their checkpoint. At that moment, he and his men cut off their communications so that Ki-Adi Mundi wouldn’t know what was coming, and they continued pushing forward.
Once Mundi turned around to face the oncoming hailfire of droid fire, they took their chance. and stopped inplace, raising their weapons. It was at this very moment though that Ki-Adi Mundi was flooded by the dark side of the voice, clouding every corner of his mind and every next thought that he had. He sensed that something had gone very wrong… Probing deeper into the force in the little time he had left, Mundi realized that he was sensing the thoughts of Commander Bacarra. As we know from Chirrut Imwe in Rogue One, the force moves darkly near a creature that’s about to kill.
Mundi sensed that Baccara hesitated, deciding whether or not he really wanted to kill the Jedi who had saved his life so many times over the course of the war. But then, the dark side exploded around him once again as he sensed Baccara’s hestiation move to utter rage and fury. The Clone Commander’s mind was filled by the deaths of all of his brothers under the death of Mundi.
