In this Star Wars news update, we take a look at Star Wars Visions the Star Wars anime anthology by Lucasfilm and Disney+. Kathleen Kennedy first announced it in December and its initial release will comprise of ten anime-inspired original short films from various Japanese animation studios that present a different cultural perspective to Star Wars. George Lucas was heavily influenced by Akira Kurosawa when he first made A New Hope and elements of Japanese culture have always been central to the Star Wars franchise – even lightsabers.
The series will draw on characters from the Skywalker Saga such as Boba Fett, Jabba the Hutt and so on but is going to be classed as Star Wars Legends. We might get some kind of continuation to the sequel trilogy but most of it focuses on the prequel trilogy and the original trilogy – especially Return of the Jedi.
Star Wars Visions is one of 3 series this year with Star Wars The Bad Batch currently on Disney+ with Episode 10 «Common Ground» and The Book of Boba Fett which is a Mandalorian spin-off featuring Temuera Morrison and Ming-Na Wen as Fennec Shand by Robert Rodriguez, Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau!
