Lucasfilm has released a mid-season trailer for their latest animated series, Star Wars: The Bad Batch, that teases the return of Ming-Na Wen’s bounty hunter, Fennec Shand. The Bad Batch is a followup to Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which was originally cancelled following Disney’s purchase of Lucasfilm, but was revived last year for a final season. The show follows a group of elite clones in the immediate aftermath of Order 66, in an era where the Jedi are thought to be extinct and the Galactic Empire controls the galaxy with an iron fist.
The Bad Batch marks the second appearance of Fennec Shand who originally debuted in the first season of The Mandalorian. The bounty hunter was originally meant to be killed off in her first appearance, but the idea was scrapped after Ming-Na Wen convinced The Mandalorian writer/director, Dave Filoni, to keep her character around a while longer. Since then, Wen has reprised her role in the second season of The Mandalorian as well as in The Bad Batch as a younger iteration of the character; she is also set to return later this year in The Book of Boba Fett, which is expected to bridge the narrative gap between the second and third seasons of The Mandalorian. While she has become somewhat of a protagonist in The Mandalorian, she plays an antagonistic role in The Bad Batch as a bounty hunter chasing after the mysterious child clone, Omega (Michelle Ang).
