How Jabba Really Got His Rancor (NOT Muchi) - The Bad Batch 1

After taking a rescue mission from a bounty hunter named Cid on Ord Mantell, Clone Force 99 were sent to capture the ferocious young Rancor named Muchi so that she could be delivered to Jabba’s palace, by Bib Fortuna. Unless this was a retcon however, this isn’t actually the Rancor that Luke Skywalker killed in Return of the Jedi. So how did Jabba actually acquire his rancor, the one Luke did kill at his palace? Lets find out…

After being sent to hunt down the Ravenous Rancor named Muchi by cid, the Bad Batch eventually found her, and Wrecker was forced to fight with her until the two were both exhausted to the point of falling over… This did however lead to her successful capture, allowing Bib Fortuna to pick her up and take her back to the hot sands of Tatooine, where Muchi would live in Jabba’s palace. But this isn’t the Rancor that Luke Kills, because that one has already been given a name in Canon through the aftermath novels and the reference books, as well as being a male. So ill break down the possibilities for how Muchi fits into the the story, and then we’ll get into the full story of how Jabba acquired his Rancor.

The first option is simply that Jabba changes Muchi’s name once she arrives at his palace. This is definitely possible, and it would make even more sense if his beastmaster, Malakili was the one who changed Muchi’s name to Pateesa, because he is a rancor lover and is very close to the animals that he looks over for Jabba. Pateesa in Huttese actually means friend, so it would be a very fitting name for Malakili to give the Rancor after it arrives at the palace. This wouldn’t explain Muchi being a female and Pateesa being a male , but it’s one possibility. It’s also possible that Pateesa is literally just a nickname given to Muchi by Malakili or someone else at the palace, but that again has the same issue with her being a female.
