The news we’ve all been waiting for has finally arrived!. The actor for Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ewan McGregor has confirmed that the Obi-Wan Kenobi limited series will actually begin filming very soon for a release on Disney+ not long after that. So, I’m going to break down every piece of information given about the Obi-Wan Kenobi TV series, and why it might actually be coming earlier than we thought.
In an interview, Ewan McGregor, the man and legend who plays Obi-Wan Kenobi was asked whether or not he would be diving back into the Star Wars world with either a movie of TV Show. As we already knew from countless leaks, rumours and even an official announcement, Ewan McGregor confirmed that he will be returning to play his incredible role of Obi-Wan Kenobi for a limited TV series on Disney+.
Interestingly, Ewan did confirm that the show will be mainly centred on Obi-Wan now, with only minor focus on other characters. This is really awesome to hear, because we do know that the script writer for the Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ series was actually fired for writing a script that only featured Obi-Wan for literally the last few moments of the series. As you can tell, I don’t know if too many of us would have been happy with that. personally I think Obi-Wan should be the main feature for a TV show which is named Kenobi, especially since that’s what we’ve promised for years now. Let me know down below if you think they could ever pull it off without heavily featuring the man himself, Obi-Wan.
Following that, Ewan McGregor confirmed the biggest piece of news that many of us have all been waiting for, for some time. Ewan finally stated the filming for the series will begin in March of 2021, ready for a release in very late 2021 or even 2022. I know that’s a really long wait for such an amazing show and incredible character, but I’m really hoping they manage to pull it off and create a masterpiece.
Now Ewan McGregor and Lucasfilm still haven’t revealed an exact year or time period where the show will be set. We obviously know it’s after Revenge of the Sith, but It could be only a few days after his Star Wars: Rebels fight with Maul or it could be the day before Rogue One and A New Hope, we really don’t know at this point. Ewan did however give a hint that he will be more closely matching the performance of Sir Alec Guiness than he did in the prequels, potentially pointing to somewhere close to Episode 4.
Now we’ve also heard some major rumours coming out of some very reputable sources and media outlets which claim that Obi-Wan Kenobi will be experiencing some horrific flashbacks to the Clone Wars, and Order 66, where we will actually get a live action Hayden Christensen in Anakin’s Clone Wars armour. I don’t even have to tell you guys how awesome that sounds. On top of that, it is also heavily rumoured that a live action appearance of Commander Cody will be taking place somewhere in the show. We don’t know anything yet about whether or not he took his inhibitor chpi out, or whether he deserted the Empire, or is still training Stormtroopers on Kamino like he did in legends. Now alongside having multiple flashbacks to the Clone Wars, which is incredible by itself, we also heard from leaks that Hayden will be getting into the Darth Vader suit to replay the role he played in Revenge of the Sith, which was the last time he was in the famous mechanical suit. Let me know down below what you think about these rumours, i’m honestly incredibly excited to see where they take the Obi-Wan Show!
Finally, we also know almost for certain that Qui-Gon Jinn, played by Liam Neeson will be featuring the show. His appearance has been rumored by multiple sources, and we know that Qui-Gon played a tremendous role in teaching both Yoda and his former apprentice, Obi-Wan how to transcend into the Cosmic force and become a force ghost. There are some points from the A Certain Point of View book which make it harder for Qui-Gon to make an appearance, but I do hope we see him regardless.
