In part 2 of this podcast we analyze the use of visual storytelling techniques in the Force Awakens. We discuss the symbolism found in visual devices, cinematographic techniques, and common tropes employed in the storytelling of episode 7. In this portion of our podcast we go into an in depth discussion of key sequences in TFA, including Kylo Ren’s two interrogation scenes and his two lightsaber duels. We interpret the film language of each scene, from a technical standpoint through use of different camera lenses, angles and lighting, and from a trope and symbolism perspective. Lastly we speculate on what these scenes might signify for specific character arcs going forward.
