Star Wars: Darth Maul (2000) #1–4 is a 4-issue comic miniseries published by Dark Horse Comics. It ran from September to December 2000 (cover dates), written by Ron Marz with art by Jan Duursema (pencils) and others.
Overview and Setting
This Legends-era story is set about 6 months before Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (roughly 33 BBY). Darth Sidious tasks his apprentice, Darth Maul, with eliminating the leadership of the powerful criminal syndicate Black Sun to prevent any interference with his plans for the Trade Federation blockade of Naboo.
It’s a fast-paced, action-heavy Sith story focused on Maul as an unstoppable enforcer. He receives his Scimitar (Sith Infiltrator) starship (with cloaking device, probe droids, and Bloodfin speeder bike) for the mission.
Plot Summary (No Major Spoilers)
Sidious orders Maul to strike Black Sun’s heart. Maul begins systematically eliminating key figures, forcing a gathering of the remaining leaders in their fortified base on Ralltiir. The series delivers intense lightsaber action, stealth, and brutal Sith efficiency as Maul completes his bloody assignment.
It includes a brief early appearance/sensing by Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi on Coruscant.
