Force binding, also known as Force containment, was a Force power of the light side of the Force that gave its users the ability to contain the influence that an artifact of the dark side of the Force had on its surroundings. Members of the Jedi Order used binding rituals on artifacts so that they could be transported safely. In 232 BBY, Jedi MasterCohmac Vitus, Jedi KnightOrla Jareni, and Jedi Padawan Reath Silas used Force binding on a set of four idols they discovered on the Amaxine space station.
Force light was a light side Force power used by the Jedi. When used against a darksider, Force light would weaken the darksider’s connection to the Force. With the light of the Force, a Jedi could either purge or contain dark side manifestations or nexus points, whether in places, spirits, or even living persons, though sometimes to detrimental effect. By channeling the Force into withering blasts of light-side energy, the darkness can then be diminished or destroyed permanently. Force light could also be used to sever the bond between a Sith battlelord and his or her followers. However, powerful dark siders could resist it or even deflect it back at a Jedi.
