Why Trandoshan Jedi Were So Rare - Star Wars Explained 1

Trandoshans, or T’doshok in Dosh, were large, bipedal reptilian humanoids from the planet of Trandosha (or Dosha). They had sensitive eyes that could see into the infrared range and the ability to regenerate lost limbs—albeit slowly—and were anatomically built heavier and stronger than most humanoids, including Humans. They would also periodically shed their skin. Unlike some other reptilian humanoids, such as the Barabels and the Ssi-ruuk, Trandoshans had no tails. The Trandoshans on the whole were a warlike species, with many of them becoming slavers, bounty hunters, hired guns, and other unsavory professions. During the Imperial Era, the Trandoshans as a collective allied early with the Empire, taking Wookiees, whom they considered bitter rivals, as slaves.

A notable Trandoshan was Bossk, a bounty hunter who was a longtime enemy of Han Solo, Chewbacca, and Boba Fett, as well as the infamous slaver Pekt.

As a species, they were renowned across the galaxy for great strength. This is evidenced by several members of other species boasting physical prowess and power by having defeated a Trandoshan, either in battle or in a contest of strength.

There are several types of Trandoshans in Star Wars. The tall, brown-skinned Trandoshans as seen in episodes 5 and 6, which seem to be the baseline Trandoshan; the tall, brown-skinned, misshapen-headed Trandoshans as seen in the Dark Forces saga; the short, middle or big, green, and stubby Trandoshans working as slavers or elites in Star Wars: Republic Commando; the massive giant Trandoshan heavy mercenaries also from Republic Commando, and the short, stubby Trandoshans that Gha Nachkt was a member of, who can be seen in The Clone Wars television series. Star Wars: Complete Locations revealed that Saurins are a Trandoshan subspecies with human-like hands.
