How Did Luke Skywalker Find Out About Padme’s death? Many years after the destruction of the Second Death star and the victory at the battle of Endor, R2-D2 suffered a severe malfunction requiring Luke to fix him. During the repairs, Artoo began playing a recording from the time of the Clone Wars, showing Anakin and Padme discussing his visions of her death during childbirth. He then showed Luke the conversation between Obi-Wan and Padme where they discuss Anakin’s fall to the dark side. This is the first time Luke ever heard his mother’s name.

After this however, Artoo refused to show anymore because of how distressing the next series of events were for the small droid… Some time later however, Artoo was forced to show Luke Anakin’s slaughter of the younglings in the Jedi temple, horrifying him and forcing him to sit in solitude for quite some time. Luke then witnessed his father force choking Padme on Mustafar, before finally witnessing the birth of himself and Leia… This left Luke extremely conflicted but ultimately grateful that it wasn’t his father who killed Padme.
