Why do Anakin and Mace hate each other? Mace Windu and Anakin Skywalker were two Jedi always at odds with each other. From the moment they met in The Phantom Menace, they viewed each other with suspicion, distrust, and skepticism. Mace Windu had no interest in training Anakin when he first arrived, and regarded him with distrust through his entire career.

Mace Windu was strongly devoted to the Jedi Code and his duty. Meanwhile, Anakin was a known rule-breaker. Windu disliked how he was blinded by emotion, and often disobeyed his superiors out of his own arrogance. Additionally, Anakin had special treatment, and instead of appreciating it, he had greed for more. His flaws and mistakes were frequently brushed aside. Mace Windu was adamant on staying true to the facts, and in all honesty, by the facts, Anakin Skywalker was powerful, but he wasn’t a good Jedi. He was a good Force-User, but he never felt a true obligation to honoring the Jedi Code as the others did. Put simply, Mace was Lawful Good, and Anakin was Chaotic Good. Not a good mix.
