A male Twi’lek, Bib Fortuna hailed from Ryloth, the homeworld of his species. Fortuna was born to a prominent clan that had close ties to the criminal underworld, though his more politically minded cousin Beezer resented his famiy’s associations. At some point, Fortuna competed against Bidlo Kwerve to become the majordomo of the Hutt crime lord Jabba Desilijic Tiure. Fortuna also gave Jabba his pet rancor Pateesa as a birthday present. Ultimately, Fortuna succeeded and claimed the job whereas Kwerve ended up as an early victim of the rancor.

He served as Jabba’s majordomo as far back as the time of the Invasion of Naboo, in 32 BBY. That year, Fortuna attended the Boonta Eve Classic, which his master hosted to commemorate the Boonta Eve holiday. From his master’s private balcony, he witnessed the victory of a local human boy named Anakin Skywalker against the reigning champion Sebulba. As the Hutt was not interested in podracing aside from the gambling aspect of the sport, Jabba fell asleep before the end of the race, forcing Fortuna to wake him up in order to announce the ending.

As the years of galactic history passed, Fortuna continued to serve Jabba as the Galactic Republic was reorganized into the Galactic Empire. Around 19 BBY, during the early days of the Imperial Era, Fortuna came into contact with Cid, a Trandoshan who operated on the planet Ord Mantell, and hired her to retrieve the young rancor Muchi from a group of Zygerrian slavers. As time passed and Muchi was not yet rescued, however, Fortuna contacted her via hologram, informing her that Jabba was impatient and wanted to know why the rancor had not yet been returned. As she ate, Cid noted that the operation required a delay due to planning and asked him to assure Jabba that Muchi would soon be rescued. Although Fortuna attempted to threaten her, Cid remained unintimidated, claiming she had her best team working to save the rancor. While Fortuna deactivated his hologram, Cid had actually hired Clone Force 99, a group of clone commando deserters she had only just met and who she was uncertain could actually succeed.

With Muchi still not returned to Jabba, Fortuna personally arrived at Cid’s place of operations with two Gamorrean guards, entering into her office and demanding an update on behalf of Jabba. Cid again claimed Muchi would be rescued, trying to ease his concerns after he threatened consequences for failure by noting how delicate the operation was. Before Fortuna could respond to her request that Jabba be patient, Muchi was heard outside, as Clone Force 99 had succeeded in their mission. Quickly getting outside to reunite with Muchi, the majordomo was overjoyed to see his master’s pet safe, greeting the young rancor before ordering a guard to give Cid her payment with a snap. With the rancor safe, Fortuna told her they would return home before leaving with his guards. Cid proceeded to give Clone Force 99 thirty percent of Fortuna’s payment, as they had agreed upon.
