As the separatists began increasing their stranglehold on Republic territory throughout the Galaxy, Republic High Command the Jedi council increasingly became very nervous about their ability to even win the war. Because of this, they contracted the Bounty Hunter’s guild in secret to not only take out big name separatist leaders, but also their political enemies… So, lets find out how the system worked.
Here’s why the Republic secretly used Bounty Hunters against their own citizens, and likely will do the same in Star Wars: The Bad Batch Season 1, where Hunter, Wrecker, Echo, Tech and Crosshair will fight the empire, along with Omega.
Because of the Republic’s increasing nervousness and worry about external threats, an organization known as the Republic Enforcement DataCore was formed, which maintained a database of all official, government sponsored bounties that were available for bounty hunters to take.
Access to the database was exclusively given to the Bounty Hunter’s guild because of their very stable and reliable reputation at the time, which likely angered many of the other bounty hunter organizations who found out about the existence of this database.
Initially, only high ranking known separatists were placed on the bounty list by the Republic, including the big three, being Count Dooku, Asajj Ventress and General Grievous, but this was quickly expanded to almost any separatist commander, general or leader that could be identified by the Republic.
