This is the second issue of the three-part horror miniseries Star Wars: Tales from the Nightlands, a canon Halloween-themed story set in the spectral Nightlands of Ryloth—a haunted realm where Twi’lek spirits dwell after death. The series introduces the Nightlander, a terrifying boogeyman entity (designed by legendary Star Wars concept artist Iain McCaig) that preys on the living by possessing powerful hosts to spread despair across the galaxy.
In this issue, the action shifts to the original trilogy era. Fresh off his devastating defeat at Cloud City in The Empire Strikes Back, Luke Skywalker is haunted by Darth Vader’s shocking revelation: «I am your father.» Tormented by doubt and grief, Luke experiences a chilling nightmare that challenges the truth of Vader’s claim. Desperate for answers, he delves into the Nightlands’ thin veil between life and death—only to encounter not the guidance he seeks, but the malevolent Nightlander itself. Joined by his sister Leia Organa, Luke must confront this otherworldly horror in a desperate bid to uncover hidden truths about his lineage and survive the spectral realm’s grasp.
The story blends psychological terror with Star Wars lore, exploring themes of loss, identity, and the dark side through Ryloth’s ghostly legends. Expect atmospheric artwork emphasizing shadows, apparitions, and the eerie beauty of the Nightlands, building on the series’ tradition of spooky anthology tales spanning the Skywalker Saga.
