So episode 5 of Obi-Wan Kenobi has finally dropped and it certainly delivered.we were given a look at The return of the Grand inquisitor, how reva knows Anakin is Vader and Anakin inside the Jedi temple during Order 66. So lets break down all of the lore and connections from the books, comics, games and other shows.
So the Episode begins on a wide shot of the sprawling cityscape of Coruscant, in the beautifully lit daytime over the planet. We are then greeted by a Padawan Anakin Skywalker, exactly as he looked back in Attack of the Clones. He is waiting for his Master Obi-Wan to enter the room so he have a lightsaber sparing match with, just like many Masters do with their apprentices. This does also kind of look like the same room where Reva and the other younglings were practicing in the Order 66 flashback scene, which makes sense. This is a training room after all.
Before we can see any more of this, we jolt back to the present time with the stern and cold Darth Vader awaiting the arrival of Reva. When she enters the bridge of Vader’s ship she is told to kneel, and is then granted the rank of Grand Inquisitor. This does finally confirm that the Grand Inquisitor is actually a rank and not just the title of the first Inquisitor to get the position, and we did also see that in the previous episodes. Either way, we’ll cover the Grand Inquisitor much more later in the video. All of the big questions will be answered and Rebels fans will be very happy!
After this we arrive on the planet of Jabiim. This is actually the sight of one of the most brutal and bloody battles of the whole Clone Wars, where Obi-Wan and Anakin fought alongside each other. The Republic and the separatists suffered horrific losses, and the battle got so Bad that Anakin genuinely believed Obi-Wan Kenobi had died. Anakin was then ordered to lead an evactuation of the planet once the battle was lost, and the he was faced with the horrifying decision of who to evacuate. There weren’t enough transports for the locals there, so he decided to save his own clones over the locals… He then left them with the final words, “This is your war now”, marking Anakin as the most hated man in Jabiim’s history for years to come.
Next up we arrive back on Jabiim, and Haja Estree happens to be waiting there because of his little encounter with Reva earlier in the series. He’s now wanted by the Empire, so he had nowhere else to go… Estree claims to now know how it feels to be a real Jedi, but somehow sees a business opportunity here… Gotta love this man. Now after this we actually get one of the deepest lore cuts in the show so far. Vader is staring off into hyperspace like he often does, and this is actually for a specific reason. If you look out into The streaking lights of hyperspace for too long, you can actually feel a form of psychosis known as Hyperspace sickness. Usually people would try to avoid this, but Darth Vader actually loved it’s intoxicating effect because it relieved some of his suffering and pain.
