This is why Obi-Wan used the Forbidden Lightsaber move SAI TOK to OBLITERATE Darth Maul…
Obi-Wan Kenobi was one of the most obedient and wise Jedi Master to live during the time of the Clone Wars. He strictly followed the Jedi code and believed that was the only way truly bring light to the Galaxy… But when things got dire and Obi-Wan was in the most dangerous position of his life, he went against the Jedi code and his teachings. He used a highly forbidden lightsaber move that the Jedi Order hated… What was this move?
After the death of his Master Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan entered the fight of his life with Sith Lord Darth Maul, on Naboo. The two traded jabs ferociously and eventually Maul launched Kenobi down the reactor shaft nearby… Thankfully, Obi-Wan was able to use his quick thinking to grab hold of a nearby outcropping, saving him from falling to his death.
What he did next though would go against all of his teachings in the Order and highly forbidden by the Jedi Council. Obviously though, this was Obi-Wan’s lowest moment and he really had no other option. If he didn’t break from his teachings and go against the council here, he would take those teachings to the grave. So what he did was leap into the air using the force and grab Qui-Gon Jinn’s saber, before swiftly turning it on and slashing Darth Maul straight through the chest. Now you might think this is just a simple swing of the lightsaber, but this specific move has a name within the Jedi Order, called Sai Tok. The move was extremely frowned upon by the Jedi order because of how it chanelled the Dark Side through its user, as well as it’s roots in Sith combat.
In fact there was even a vertical version of Sai Tok, which cut an enemy in half vertically, splitting their brain in half. Sai Tok was one of the nine marks of contact that a Jedi was taught in the Dojos of the temple, which you can see on screen now, and was sometimes referred to as the Bisecting Blow… Obviously, if a Jedi was caught using it in a non life threatening situation, they would be punished by the council.
