As the clone wars raged on across the Galaxy and the Republic lost more and more troopers, they wanted to find more ways to keep Clones in action for longer and continue fighting. To do this, they turned to the greatest medical minds of the Republic and the Jedi’s best healers… So what happened to Clone Troopers who lost organs during the war? Lets find out!
In the early parts of the war, if a Clone Trooper took a droid blaster bolt or injured one of their crucial organs or limbs, that was pretty much game over for them. If there was enough time during the battle and the dead trooper was lucky enough, his brothers could bury him at the place of his death, honouring his sacrifice. If the battle was raging on too harshly however the trooper would likely be left to rot on the battlefield for a very long time. In the worst possible case however, the Kaminoans would take the body of the Clone back to Kamino where it would be placed into a huge recycling vat, crushed up and separated into it’s most basic form. The Kaminoans would then re use the fallen soldier’s biological matter to continue the cloning proceses, obviously having slightly degraded results.
Later on however, these troopers who received pretty severe but not life threatening injuries had another option. The republic began to use a substance called Cryogen, which allowed the Kaminoans to clone organs and have them frozen, before sending them off to the injured troopers. Clone field medics could then make use of these organs to save dying clones. The substance was typically inert until it was mixed with oxygen, but once combined it was capable of preserving skin cells, soft tissue, organs and even full limbs. This substance rose to prominence during the war when it became essential to the republic’s war efforts.
