The Mandalorian Season 2 is over and the Book of Boba Fett drops December 2021 on Disney+ with the Mandalorian Season 3 coming out in 2022, according to Lucasfilm, Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau! The Bad Batch is released on Star Wars Day – May 4th 2021!
In this Star Wars news update, we take a look at speculation that Timothy Olyphant as Cobb Vanth could return in The Book of Boba Fett instead of the Mandalorian Season 3. While Season 3 of the live-action Lucasfilm, Star Wars and Disney+ show is set to be about the conflict between Mando (Din Djarin) and Bo-Katan Kryze for the Darksaber after Din won it in battle with Moff Gideon, the Book of Boba is on Tatooine where Cobb Vanth is Marshal of Mos Pelgo as we saw in The Mandalorian Season 2 Chapter 9. On the Book of Boba Fett, Temuera Morrison recently gave us an update on Project NZ – that filming has begun in Los Angeles with Ming-Na Wen who plays Fennec Shand. There is also speculation that Daniel Logan who played young Boba Fett in Attack of the Clones and in The Clone Wars is returning to the Book of Boba Fett for flashback sequences!
We also discuss the show more broadly and how it needs to be different to the Mandalorian even though it is part of Dave Filoni’s Mando-verse along with Rangers of the New Republic, the Ahsoka Tano series (with Rosario Dawson) and The Mandalorian Season 3.
Speaking of the latter, we also talk about Pedro Pascal who is poised for first position in The Last of Us on HBO. I bring up a rumor that Lucasfilm and Disney are worried that after Gina Carano was fired and due to the new role that Pedro Pascal holds – he will leave the show. He plays Din Djarin (Mando) and they are hoping he will stay. This leads us to a wider conversation as to whether or not the Mandalorian’s future is in trouble or not. Star Wars are feeling the pressure from fans who are vocal about their views after Kathleen Kennedy and Lucasfilm cancelled Gina Carano who formerly played Cara Dune. They recently cancelled the Mandalorian novel and the Mandalorian Visual Guide. While they said it was for scheduling reasons, it could be something more.
We know that the Book of Boba Fett is getting a prequel in the form of a comic miniseries – Charles Soule is releasing comics based on Boba Fett between the Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. It is called War of the Bounty Hunters and will be similar to Shadows of the Empire which will give backstory to upcoming live-action Star Wars, Lucasfilm and Disney+ series which is a Mandalorian Spin-off. Other than Boba Fett and Fennec Shand, we can expect the likes of Bib Fortuna, Zuckuss, IG-88, 4-LOM, Dengar and Bossk, Rotta the Hutt from the Clone Wars, Han Solo and Chewbacca, Jodo Kast, Cobb Vanth, Hondo Ohnaka, Qi’ra and Cad Bane.
In the Mandalorian Season 2 finale (Season 2 Chapter 16 of the live-action Star Wars, Lucasfilm and Disney+ show), Boba and Fennec visited Jabba The Hutt’s Palace on Tatooine and took the throne of crime and villainy from Bib Fortuna.
