Gina Carano (Cara Dune) has been fired by Lucasfilm from the Mandalorian. She will not appear in the Mandalorian Season 2 and the Season 2 finale (Chapter 16 – The Rescue) was her final performance on the live-action show. The Mandalorian Season 3 might be in trouble as a result. That coupled with the fact that Pedro Pascal has been hired by HBO for the Last of Us adaptation means that season 3 of the live-action Star Wars, Lucasfilm and Disney+ show might not debut in 2022 as Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni may have hoped.
The Gina Carano firing was a long time coming after Kathleen Kennedy and Lucasfilm on the whole were very unhappy with Gina Carano’s Twitter activity. This ranged from unfavourable speech to political opinions that didn’t reflect well on Lucasfilm.
We also discuss the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series and how Ray Park who plays Darth Maul may have teased a return in the series. We know that Hayden Christensen will reprise the role of Anakin Skywalker in flashbacks as well as Darth Vader after the events of Revenge of the Sith and before A New Hope.
In this Star Wars news update, we also talk about Daisy Ridley who says she’s more than open to the possibility of returning to Star Wars to play Rey Skywalker in the future. After the Rise of Skywalker, it was believed that she was done with the galaxy far, far away…. but now it seems as though she is open to making her return. We first saw her in the Force Awakens which was followed by her appearance in the Last Jedi and finally in Episode IX which was the final instalment of the Skywalker Saga.
The Mandalorian Season 2 has come to an end and Lucasfilm have announced a whole set of upcoming Star Wars shows and projects at Disney Investor Day 2020 including Rangers of the New Republic, Star Wars: Ahsoka, Andor, The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi series and The Mandalorian Season 3 which drops on Disney+ in 2022 according to Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau.
With Lucasfilm trying to expand the Mandalorian universe, there will lots of cross overs. For example, Luke Skywalker and Grogu might run into Ahsoka Tano and reminisce about Anakin – her former master and Luke’s father. While it’s certain that Rosario Dawson will reprise the role of the Togruta ex-Jedi Ahsoka Tano, there have been previous rumors of Sabine Wren and Ezra Bridger appearing in the series, the World Between Worlds as we saw in Star Wars: Rebels could retcon the Sequel Trilogy and place it on an alternate timeline to the Mandalorian and how Hayden Christensen could appear as Anakin Skywalker in the form of flashbacks or even as Darth Vader when Ahsoka fought him in Rebels before Ezra Bridger saved her.
Where does the series go from here after the Mandalorian Season 2 finale – Chapter 16 «The Rescue»? We learned recently that Season 3 of the live-action Star Wars, Lucasfilm and Disney+ series would start filming on 5th April 2021. We speculate when we might get our first Mandalorian Season 3 trailer and when it will actually release on Disney+.
