The Mandalorian Season 2 has come to an end and Lucasfilm have announced a whole set of upcoming Star Wars shows and projects at Disney Investor Day 2020 including Rangers of the New Republic, Star Wars: Ahsoka, Andor, The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi series and The Mandalorian Season 3 which drops on Disney+ in 2022 according to Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau.
In this video, we are taking a look at the upcoming Mandalorian spin-off series: Rangers of the New Republic which was announced by Kathleen Kennedy. The show is a live-action Star Wars and Lucasfilm project which takes place just after the events of Return of the Jedi and just before the Mandalorian. It’s believed to be centred around Gina Carano and her character Cara Dune. Katee Sackhoff who portrayed Bo-Katan Kryze in the Mandalorian Season 2 is also expected to feature. Today’s Star Wars theory video goes Star Wars Explained to look at which major characters could feature in the series. These include Leia Organa, C-3PO, Wedge Antilles, Nien Nunb, Migs Mayfeld (Bill Burr), Mon Mothma, Captain Rex, Admiral Ackbar and others! While CGI Mark Hamill – Luke Skywalker could also feature, I left him out of our list. Recently, the Gina Carano controversy has sparked lots of debate surrounding what’s really going on with Kathleen Kennedy and Lucasfilm in general.
Carano was was erased by Lucasfilm and their recent artwork that featured Greef Karga, Moff Gideon, Din Djarin (Mando – Pedro Pascal) and Ahsoka Tano. However, it’s believed that this will not affect Rangers of the New Republic. How will Rangers of the New Republic tie into The Mandalorian Season 3? There are many unanswered questions after the Mandalorian Season 2 finale – Chapter 16 «The Rescue» and we can only wonder how Season 3 will play out. With Grogu (Baby Yoda – The Child) now with Luke Skywalker, there is speculation that Grand Admiral Thrawn might appear as well as Mara Jade. The live-action Star Wars, Lucasfilm and Disney+ show will carry on in 2022 with Din Djarin (Mando – Pedro Pascal) having to face off with Bo-Katan for the Darksaber which he won in combat against the Imperial Remnant Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito’s character) and his Dark Troopers.
