Meet the new boss, much more scary than the old boss. In episode seven of the Disney+ Star Wars series The Mandalorian we got to meet the man behind the man in the form of Moff Gideon played by the always impressive Giancarlo Esposito. Gideon is the man who employed The Client to fetch The Child, aka Baby Yoda. What does this mystery man with all that Imperial fire power mean for The Mandalorian and the future of the galaxy far far away? What does he know about The Child that the other characters don’t? No one in the show seems to recognize The Child as a dead ringer for the master Jedi with his own verb and subject placements. Moff Gideon knows, though. And what Moff Gideon knows can have ramifications beyond just the world of a lone Mandalorian bounty hunter. With allies Cara Dune and Kuiil and frenemy Greef, The Mandalorian will still have his hands full with this Imperial and possibly First Order threat. Does he have an even darker connection, one to the Sith and their eventual return that plays out years later starting with The Force Awakens and finished this weekend with The Rise of Skywalker? Are we getting our first glimpse of how the First Order came to be after the fall of the Empire? Let’s take a look at what makes Moff Gideon so special and why he’ll be the thing to watch in the coming season.
